The Opportunity:
Our client is a nationally recognised provider of site-based care services, supporting thousands of Australians every single day across 60 locations nationwide. With continued growth planned over the coming years, they are investing heavily in people, systems, process improvement, and the future of payroll technology.
They are now seeking a commercially minded, people-focused National Payroll Manager to lead their payroll function into its next phase of evolution.

The Role:
Reporting into senior leadership, you will take ownership of a large, national payroll for approximately 3,000 employees while leading and developing an experienced payroll team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the accurate and timely processing of national payroll operations
- Coaching, mentoring, and developing a team of 5 payroll professionals, including a Payroll Supervisor
- Ensuring payroll compliance across all relevant legislation, awards, and policies
- Partnering closely with operational leaders to improve payroll understanding and reduce process inefficiencies
- Driving payroll process improvement and system optimisation initiatives
- Working alongside the payroll systems provider to enhance functionality and user experience
- Identifying and recommending opportunities to integrate AI into payroll operations and workflows
- Managing employee contract and contract variation processes
- Creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
About You:
You are an experienced Payroll Manager who combines strong technical payroll capability with modern leadership and systems thinking.
You will ideally bring:
- 5+ years’ experience leading payroll teams within a medium-to-large organisation
- A proven track record of mentoring, developing, and uplifting payroll teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to educate operational staff on payroll processes and compliance
- Experience improving payroll systems, workflows, and operational efficiency
- Exposure to workforce rostering environments or roster-driven industries
- Experience with rostering systems (highly regarded)
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI and automation within payroll operations
- Strong payroll legislation and compliance knowledge
