Job Description

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Payroll UAT Analyst to support the implementation and ongoing enhancement of our clients' payroll systems. This role is critical in ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance, particularly across two industrial awards with differing rules and interpretations.

You will work closely with Payroll, HR, IT, and external vendors to design, execute, and validate payroll UAT scenarios, ensuring the system correctly interprets award conditions, pay rules, and legislative requirements before changes are released into production.

Key Responsibilities As a Payroll UAT Analyst, your duties will include:
  • Develop and execute end-to-end UAT test plans, scripts, and scenarios for payroll system changes, upgrades, and award interpretations
  • Translate industrial award clauses (e.g. overtime, penalties, allowances, leave loadings) into accurate and testable payroll scenarios
  • Validate payroll calculations across two awards, ensuring correct application of pay rules, classifications, and conditions
  • Perform parallel payroll testing, comparing system outputs against expected results and manual calculations
  • Identify, log, track, and retest payroll defects, working closely with IT and vendors to ensure timely resolution
  • Analyse UAT results and provide clear sign-off recommendations prior to production deployment
  • Support regression testing to ensure changes do not impact existing payroll functionality
  • Maintain comprehensive UAT documentation, including test evidence and audit-ready records
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in payroll UAT or payroll testing, ideally within a medium to large organisation
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and industrial awards
  • Hands-on experience testing payroll & T&A systems
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex award rules
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills and attention to detail
Why this role?
  • Play a key role in delivering accurate and compliant payroll outcomes
  • Work with a collaborative, knowledgeable payroll and systems team
  • Opportunity to deepen your expertise in award interpretation and payroll testing
We’re offering a long-term contract (minimum 6 months, likely to extend) at an attractive $75 per hour + super. You’ll be based in the East Melbourne office four days per week, giving you the chance to work hands-on with key stakeholders while still enjoying some flexibility.

This opportunity is available to commence ASAP, but applicants with up to 2 weeks' notice period can also be accommodated. To apply, please forward your resume to Marcus Stubbs at Appreciating Payroll using the links below.
